Pino de la Virgen

In the upper part of El Paso stands the oldest Canarian pine tree in the world, exceeding 800 years in age and has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. It tells the story about the appearance of the image of the Virgin Mary, which gave name to the small nearby chapel inaugurated in 1930. Here starts the popular and quintessential pilgrimage of El Paso, known as the Bajada de la Virgen del Pino which is celebrated triennially.
